Happy Holidays!
My life has been full. I imagine yours has been too! I’ve appreciated 2017 with all it’s ups and downs, it’s been a year of learning and growth. I spent much of 2017 teaching a meditative-movement yoga class, making my RoseHeart Self-Love Oil and spreading the news about my self-care book, “Loving Who You Are.”
.
This January, I’ll be giving a Vision Board Workshop! I’m excited to give this ‘playshop’ for those who want to clarify and manifest their dreams and generate more joy in their life. The art of creating a vision board is powerful. If you’re in the Ashland/Talent area and this calls to you, email me. Space is limited so let me know by January 12th.
.
As we wrap up 2017, I leave you with a self-care goodie that is one of my favorites! I do this at least once a day. It’s especially great when my body feels achy, tired, or I’m feeling out of sorts or anxious. Here’s the exercise:
.
Lay on the floor.
.
Yes! One of the best self-care secrets of all time, to lessen stress in the body, is to simply lay on the floor. Really. Just lie down with your back on the floor. Bend both knees and plant your feet flat on the floor. Bring your arms down by your sides with palms facing up. Breathe.
.
The floor has your back. Try it. This is where you’ll be supported. Lie there on the floor for at least 5 minutes. There’s no agenda other than following the flow of your inhale and exhale. There’s nothing fancy you need to do – you are simply communing closer with the ground.
.
Adults tend to do this less and less. Bad knees, stiff back, or “just not enough time for that” prevents us from spending quality time on the floor. Once a day, find a way to get yourself there. Slither down a bed, slide off the chair, do whatever it takes, but get down there!
.
Animals spend all their life close to the earth. They are constantly grounding, adjusting, and laying on the earth. Children, for the most part do too. You will often find them playing on the floor, rolling around on their belly or back.
.
When we’re close to earth, a natural grounding and alignment occurs and connects our energy system, sweeping worry from the mind-body. Yoga and other exercises are all about being “on the mat,” or on the floor. Remember, once you get down there, just breathe and enjoy your earthliness.
.
If you liked this, check out my book, “Loving Who You Are” for more basic stress relieving floor techniques that are do-able for most anyone.
.
Wishing you a Happy Chanukah, Winter Solstice, Christmas, and New Year!
With great love ‘n spirit~
Dena
